Where are the love locks in Paris?

Paris, city of love - where several romantic traditions attract lovers over the world. If you come in Paris with your beloved, you MUST follow the rules and put your own lock on one of the famous bridges of love in Paris!

(this page is the english translation and update of the article named "Les trois pont des Amoureux à Paris")

You can  put your lock on three of the Paris bridges of love. The most famous is the "Pont des Arts", but you can also go to "Pont des Archevéchés" and "Passerelle Leopold Sedar-Senghor". Of course, all of them are in the heart of the city and accessible by metro.
How to go there?

Pont des Arts

As said previously, the Pont des Arts is the most famous but it's also a really nice spot to make a pique-nique when the weather is fine. The simple but perfect scenario would be to organise your romantic date on the Pont des Arts with a rug, a bottle of champagne, some nice "patisseries".
Metro stations to go there: Pont Neuf (Line 7) or Louvre Rivoli (Line 1)

Point A : Pont des Arts

Pont de l'Archevéché

This bridge is also the way to achieve the "Ile de la Cité",  ancient cradle of the city. The nearest public transports are Pont Marie (Line 7), Maubert Mutualité (Line 10) and the RER station Saint Michel Notre Dame.

After you put your lock, you can have a nice walk in the "Ile de la Cité" and make a stop at one of the Berthillon shops to eat one of the most famous ice creams in Paris.

La Passerelle Leopold Sedar-Senghor

Near the "Jardin des Tuileries", the nearest station of this bridge is the RER station Musée D'Orsay. But you can also make a stop on the station Tuileries (Line 1), have a little and nice walk in the Jardin des Tuileries and then reach the bridge.

You probably understood that my favorite place and the one I advise you is the Pont des Arts. Nevertheless you need to know that this bridge is victim of its success: there are so many locks that their weight becomes a real problem. The Paris mayor is obliged to remove them on a regular basis to be sure they don't break the bridge. So if you want to have a change so see your lock many years later, you'd better choose a less famous one, which remains a very romantic option ;)

Et vous quel est votre endroit romantique préféré de Paris?

Where to buy furnitures for my apartment in Paris?

Dear reader, you just arrived in Paris and you are about to move in. You already found a flat to rent (you're lucky!) and you definitly need to buy some furnitures, electrical appliances and decoration to feel well in your new environment. You don't know were to go. Let me help you!

There are two categories of people in Paris. People who have car and ... the others. Usually, people that live in "Paris Intra Muros" do not have car because it's very expensive to rent a parking, which is not included in the apartment rent in most of cases. If you live in Paris heart and if you just arrived you are probably in this category. If you live in suburb, you have more chance to have a parking, and the car is often needed when you make your shopping, as everything is a bit far from your home by walk.
A very little pourcentage of people have both: the car and the lovely apartment in Paris.

So to summarise the situation: if you have a car, you will easily find a large choice of place to go for furnitures shopping. If you don't, it will be (a bit) harder because the furniture shops need space and they rarely have some shops in the middle of Paris for cost reason. It does not mean that you cannot find anything. Let's see together.

Shoppings accessible by car:

IKEA: you have many IKEA shops in Paris suburb. You can directly have the Ikea addresses on their website here. I don't advice you to go there without a car because they are not easily accessible and far from public transports.
If you really need to buy some IKEA furnitures and already have a precise list of what you need, I advice you to make an order directly on the web. Nevertheless the shipping is expensive and that you have to take that in consideration when you compare Ikea prices to other shops.
An other solution is to go there with an autolib car. But, as the Autolib cars are small, remember you will not be able to transport big voluminous cupbords and shelfes. If you attend to, prefer a rent car.

Alinéa: same details and advices as IKEA. The same kind of products too. Alinéa is a little bit more expensive than IKEA but (on my own opition), the products are a bit better in terms of quality. The only thing where they are not good competitor is the kitchen and I say you with 100% certitude that IKEA is the best place to buy a lovely made-to-measure kitchen, with your own configurations, dimensions, for a small budget.

FLY: Not my favorite furniture shop. I find that the models they expose are less IN than IKEA and Alinea articles. But you have to add it in your options if you don't find what you are looking for in Ikea and Alinea. shops are only in suburb too. In term of quality, on my point of view, what they propose are comparable with IKEA and Alinéa articles.

GIFI: you will not find a lot of furnitures in GIFI. But you can find interesting things for your bathroom, your kitchen and in term of decoration. It's not expensive at all, but don't except a very hight quality.
If you are looking for curtains and have a little budget, you can also check in this store. You will maybe find a good compromise.

Shopping available directly in Paris:

Conforama: The most popular is without any doubt Conforama. You have two stores in Paris heart: one at Pont Marie station and another one not far from Nation. You will find furnitures, shelfes, kitchen ustencils, ... with a very correct price and a correct quality. I definitly advice you to buy your cupboard in Conforama, and even if you are able to go to Ikéa or Alinéa. indeed, I made a lot of comparison and also bought cupboard in Alinéa to make a comparison for you. I can tell you that it's less expensive in Conforama compared to Alinéa and the quality is exactly the same, if Conforama is not better.
You have more choice on their web site and even with expedition cost, Conforama offer is more interesting. In addition, you can also find in Conforama a large range of household electrical appliances: iron, washing room, dish washer, computer, printer, television, telephones, ... It's not the case in IKEA for example.

But: you can also find a BUT in Paris in boulevard de Sebastopol. The range of products proposed is quite similare to products proposed in Conforama in Paris.

In both cases you may need to buy something heavy. You can eventually take a cab and ask for a monospace to be sure it will feat in the car.

And have a look on Chape

Good look!

-Honey.

L'exprimental Cocktail Club, Paris Bar huppé comme on les aime

Encore une adresse parisienne qui va vous plaire :-) Un petit trésor du côté de Montorgueil

Experimental Cocktail Club by Wine Terroir
****

If you are looking for a very original bar in Paris heart, I definitly advise you this Bar Named Ëxperimental Cocktail Bar. My article will be in French but if you need more details about this bar, you can go on this blog Wine Terroir  that will tell you all you need to know about this bar  and also a lot of pictures ;-) Enjoy Life in Paris Club.

****

People in Paris Subway

This is the translation of my article "Essai Sur les Voyageurs du Métro"

This morning I decided to analyze Paris subway travelers, an environment rich in cultural diversity but also rich in behavior. I was able to distinguish during my 45 minute commute nine types of travelers. Let's see them:

Tourists
They are easy to recognize. Especially the Japanese. It is those who are excited to take the famous Paris metro. These are the only ones happy in the train.

Sleepers
Those who still have "heads in the ass", even at 9:30 in the morning.  We almost believe that it is rather 9:30 pm. Or those who have not yet recovered from the evening "a little" tipsy.

Smartphone-addicts
Those who are super focused on the last Angry Bird or those super strenuous to reach the best score Bubble Explodes. You will not miss to see a nice bunch of Iphone owners, their eyes glued to their screens.

Facebook-addictis
Those who are addicted to their Facebook (second) life and are overwhelmed to meet their 2000 notifications or to track their "friends" pictures.

Voyeurs
Those who spend their time looking at emails and text messages from their neighbors, as if your life was as interesting a novel who has been awarded a literary prize. You will also notice those who stare people from head to foot.

Super Readers
Those who are overwhelmed in their reading. They are also so focused that they forget soon after their arrest.

Rubbers
Only women understand what it is. You know those guys who have nothing else to do than to come to rub shoulders with (pretty) women / girls in the subway.

Workers
Those who are still immersed in their IBM desktop, in the reading of their documents, or in the process of refining the "big contract" of this month.

Depressive
No smartphone, no books, wandering the head in the clouds (well into the ceiling instead of the subway). They are still recovering from being in Paris, and still wonder why they came in the capital crazy.

Just for Jock
(To be taken with humor please). Those who "has no unemployment, no RSA, no money. Not eat for little children")

Anyway despite all those, I love the subway. I must avoid that I'm glad the morning to wait three minutes for the next train. :)

A drink at the Institut du Monde Arabe

It's hard to say goodbye to the Summer. Before the weather becomes really bad, we have to enjoy the last sunny days.

If you are looking for a good place that gives a view on Paris, but you wanna escape very touristic places full of people, I would advice you to go to the top of the "Institut du Monde Arabe" building.
It's the ideal place if you are looking for serenity, because only few people know that it's possible to go on the top of the building and that the view is very beautiful.

What to see?
This place offers a clear view of Notre Dame and the Seine.

What to do?
You can also try the Libyen Restaurant, but just to let you know: it's expensive. It's a modern restaurant with a cozy ambiance.
If you want to save your budget, you can also just order a glass of lemonade or a very good mint tea.

No more comment, I guess the best way for you to have an idea of the place is to go there :)

The applications you have to download on your mobile before coming in Paris

Be equipped to better appreciate Paris: D

Because the Smartphone is our best friend, let's download the best applications needed to survive in Paris and to maximize your stay if you are just passing through.Let me share with you the play list of free applications I currently use and I think well deserving a place on your mobile.

>> Transport: If you want the Paris subway and bus map, the application of the RATP s for you. This application will allow you to always have at hand the map of subways. Also handy for finding the optimized  way ;) Simple, free and complete. And if you have to take the RER or Transilien, download SNCF Direct in order to have direct real-time schedule and simplify your life. For those who wann make a short-term bike rental there is also an application Velib (which is the name of the company who manage this in Paris). You will surely be happy to have the ability to geo locate and identify the Velib stations, but additional features are fairly limited. On Android, you also have the application Veloid, I have not had a chance to test but it has a lot of  good evaluation.

>> Housing: Because finding housing in Paris is a pain (for sure), very practical applications are now available to quickly and easily receive the latest rental listings. The best one is definitly be the application of Se Loger.com. If you are looking for a collocation, you have the applications Appartager, of the site with the same name. I have not tested it myself but I have very good feedback of the site and the application.

>> Weather: To be realistic, the weather in Paris is fickle. It is essential to have rapid access to weather, even if only to know the clothes you should wear, or if you can finally organize the famous picnic with friends this week-end. Among the few weather applications available, the easier and more ergonomic for me is the Meteo application Paris. You'll find the forecast in real time with great simplicity.

>> Moovies: As I'm a fan of UGC (which provides the majority of his films in VO) I advice you without hesitation the applications UGC and UGC Resa (but nhe UGC Resa is usefull only if you leave in Paris): you will have the capability to retrieve quickly and easily the list of movies, watching hours in different rooms but also make your reservation. If you have an unlimited card UGC, UGC application Resa is prime.
And if you are a true cinephile, make sure you also downloaded the Allo Ciné application, which in addition to schedules and geographic location offers the critical press and spectators.

>> Shopping: An application that will appeal especially the female: Shopping By Paris. And yes, Paris is the world capital of fashion. And come to Paris without dripping Parisian shopping is definitely missing something. The main advantage of this application is to provide a circuit depending on your style of dress: Bobo chic, Ethnic, Trendy, Creative, Select, ... There's something for everyone. You will also find the addresses by brand shops. I particularly recommend this application to those who are passing through Paris, with limited time and who need access to information quickly.

>> Restaurants and parties:You run in transport, you do not have time to read the posters in subway stations. To be aware of activities in Paris (open-air cinemas, exhibitions, ...) but also to see some good ideas for going out, let's go on the application Paris. You also  have the Parisien. Sortir application offers all the events in Paris at the time. Better yet you sort free evenings for small budgets. Bars, student parties, concerts, shows, exhibitions, festivals: everything comes together in a single application and will please those who like to move. Little good practice: you have a section called "Free" which allows you to have a single list of free activities all the time. My Little Paris: although this is an application dedicated to a rather female audience, I find this great application to receive regular special offers Parisians. Between the original restaurant and the top list of things to remember in his luggage, this little application offers every day a story about Paris.

At your downloads:)

PS: If my article helped you, please like and share :)

What to do, where to go, and what to see in Paris

Paris, the wonderful City: what to do, what to see, where to go, and when?

If you are on my blog, it means that either you are a friend or you are looking for information to organize your trip in Paris. Anyway, whatever the reason that led you on my page, you are welcome.

I often receive questions from good friends abroad that are curious about the lifestyle in Paris or that wanna come and do not know exactly what to do and how to organise their trip without having to pay too much money. Because Paris is expensive, for sure: for people who live in and also for people who just visit.

So let me share with you good plan in Paris,  things to know, articles about the town, more other things to do in, around Paris or from Paris. I am not a real Parisian and I live here for 2 years only so I hope this blog will be a good place to give my opinion with a tourist eyes and a parisian eyes.

See you in Paris ;-)
